SAIC Motor’s 2014 vehicle sales at 5.6 million
SAIC Motor announced on Jan 7 that it sold 5.62 million finished automobiles in 2014, up 10.07 percent compared with the previous year, making it the market leader in China. Shanghai General Motors sold 1.76 million finished automobiles, up 11.74 percent; Shanghai Volkswagen sold 1.73 million, up 13.11 percent; SAIC-GM-Wuling Automobile sold 1.81 million, up 12.83 percent.
SAIC Motor has insisted on the innovation-driven development strategy, while steadily scaling up its business. It has given priority to independent innovation and made full use of independent brand building, new energy project promotion and overseas business development to build itself into a world’s famous auto company with international competitiveness and brand influence.
SAIC Motor’s own brand rolled out CUBE-TECH, a competitive brand-new power assembly in 2014. The power assembly included direct injection engine, TST six-speed dual clutch transmission, TST seven-speed dual clutch transmission and new-generation engine start-stop system. SAIC Motor’s own brands will all carry the new power assembly within the next five years, in an effort to realize the strategic goal of reducing carbon emissions by 20 percent, and upgrading dynamic performance and fuel economy by 20 percent respectively..
SAIC Motor’s Roewe E50 electric vehicle, 550 plug-in strong hybrid vehicle and 750 fuel cell vehicle each was awarded the first prize in the electric, hybrid power and fuel cell groups at the 12th Michelin Challenge Bibendum held in November 2014, outclassing such international brands as BMW, Mercedes-Benz and PSA. The company became the first in kind to sweep the board at the competition.
Overseas management is a key point in SAIC Motor’s transformation-driven strategy. In June 2014, the company’s MG6 successfully went on the Thai market, and MG brand marketing is currently being strengthened. In addition, SAIC Motor has made use of the Shanghai Free Trade Zone and founded an international trading subsidiary, which gave rise to auto sales companies in the Middle East and South America in 2014.
