SAIC Motor establishes new plant in Thailand

The new plant of SAIC Motor Corporation Limited in Chon Buri province, Thailand, was recently put into operation.

Costing more than one million US dollars, the plant is expected to annually produce 100,000 vehicles. It will be a major production base for MG (Morris Garages), a key brand owned by SAIC Motor. Originating in the UK and with a history of more than a century, the brand targets young customers and adheres to the belief of “Always Young”.

SAIC Motor, an automobile giant in China, ranks the 41st among the Global Fortune 500. Due to its advanced technologies and fashionable designs, SAIC Motor produced a series of vehicles, such as MG ZS, MG GS and MG 3, which have all been well received by Thai customers.

Statistics showed that from January to November of 2017 more than 10,000 vehicles of MG brand were sold in Thailand, a year-on-year increase of 37.4 percent. Since it started selling cars in Thailand in 2014, MG has achieved a compound growth of 200 percent. In 2016, MG made it to the list of top ten passenger vehicle brands in Thailand, becoming one of the most popular brands in the country.

Internet SUV MG ZS sold in Thailand

Last November, SAIC Motor chose Thailand as the first foreign country to launch its first internet SUV MG ZS, as a further step to promote the brand at international markets.

The car is accessible to i-SMART – a voice control system available in Thailand. It is also installed with a 1.19-square meter panoramic sunroof and a eight-inch screen with functions of 24h online service, remote control and real time navigation, presenting a high-qualified driving experience for customers.

MG ZS, boasting fashionable design and internet system, was not only popular among Chinese customers but also well received by the youth of Thailand. In less than one month since it was launched in Thailand, orders for 1,500 MG ZS were already placed.

With the operation of the new plant, MG plans to sell more products to Thailand, ASEAN and globally, to produce better cars under the belief of “Always Young”.
