MG GT hits market, now open for orders
SAIC Motor marked the 90th anniversary of the MG marque with the launch of a brand-new MG GT, a fashionable high-performance mid-size car, in a bid to inject new life into the UK classical “dream car”.
The MG GT caused quite a stir when it was first unveiled to the media in June in Birmingham, UK. It made its China premiere at the Chengdu Motor Show in late August, followed by a promotion of the car in Shanghai in September and more interactive activities during the National Day holiday.
The car opened for pre-sale orders starting October 10, which are granted with priority delivery. MG GT buyers can also get a limited-edition model car and even win a trip to the UK. A series of promotions for the new car were staged in Nanjing, Chengdu, Shenzhen, Jinan, Wuhan and Xi’an before it was officially put into the market on November 1.
In MG’s history, three generations of GT cars – the MGB GT, MGC GT and MGB GT V8 – shall be remembered. They were born in the 1960s-70s in UK and won young buyers’ hearts by responding to their spiritual and aesthetic pursuits with revolutionized design and engineering at the time.
The fourth-generation MG GT would only make a classic even more so, as it inherits the MG gene and has an improved appearance and design. It also offers a better driving experience thanks to technology advancements.
The new MG GT is SAIC Motor’s first car equipped with CUBE-TECH new-generation power assembly. The SGE 1.4TGI in-cylinder central direct injection turbocharged engine, jointly developed by SAIC Motor and General Motors, has a maximum power of 110kW and a maximum torque of 235N?M. The TST seven-speed dual clutch transmission guarantees smooth gear shifting and rapid acceleration. It takes less than 0.2 seconds for the car to shift gears, and the golden match of the engine and the transmission ensures a 0-100km acceleration of just 9.5 seconds.
In addition, the application of the Start-Stop intelligent energy-saving system plays a key part in helping the new power assembly lower fuel consumption by at least 25 percent compared with traditional powertrains.
In addition, the car is furnished with the convenient and highly-efficient InKaNet 4.0 Intelligent Network Travel System, offering young drivers intelligent navigation and information services as well as an excellent driving experience.
